What is the treatment list?
Pet food and treatment manufacturers tell pet owners many things and make many claims on their labels and websites. Some will argue that their products are just like human food, others will require organic or human raised meat. Everything sounds good to your pet, if that company is honest.
Treat list (and pet food list) verifies these claims. Each company gives us verification that ingredients are human quality/inspected and approved, and about the applicable organic and human raised meat. Every year we go through hundreds of documents to give consumer insurance ingredients in these products is quality.
One of the problems with pet food/treating consumers is facing is that regulatory authorities rarely (if ever) verify any claim to pet/treatment manufacturer. FDA and state pet's authorities allow manufacturers to make marketing requirements without verification, which allows some companies to mislead pet owners. Even worse is that the legislation enables manufacturers to use ingredients for hazardous waste without disclosure to pet owners.
The FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine stated: “We do not believe that the use of sick animals or animals that died other than through slaughter to make animal food constitutes a safety problem and we intend to continue to exercise enforcement.”
In other words, pet foods and treatment manufacturers can use extremely worse quality ingredients while telling pet owners that they only use “just the best ingredients”.
The three -list takes a completely different approach. We tell pet owners information about a company that we have personally verified.
We start with a long list of questions about the quality of ingredients, manufacturing, testing and packaging. Then we ask each company to give proof of their claims.
All treatment manufacturers included in the list use ingredients for human quality, the companies gave us hundreds of documents that prove each ingredient are food quality.
If the company claimed organic ingredients or human high meat, these verification documents are also required.
I only give my own pets food and goodies with human quality/human edible ingredients. Treat list 2025/26 is my (Susan Thixton) 'List' of Treats I trust to give my own pets.
Where are the goodies?
This “list” is mainly for us/North American pet owners. All brands are in the United States. Thirteen brands are in Canada. Only a small number of brands are available outside North America.
Most brands sell directly to consumers from their website. Some brands sell through independent pet stores.
Types of candy in the treatment list 2025/26.
There is a wide range of types of goodies included in the treatment list. Fish include cookie type, occasional ingredient dehydrated and cheese pieces.
Some of the manufacturers are small, others are very small. Some own their own manufacturing facility, a few run their pet business from their home. Everyone has a commitment to making high quality goodies with only ingredients for human qualities for the pets they serve.
How were brands chosen for consideration?
Some of the goodies I were already familiar with, bought their sweets to give to my own pets. Some were referred by friends, others were referred by pet owners, and a couple was enough for us and asked to be considered.
No company pays a fee to be considered or included in the list. No company gives us free products or gifts, we buy the goodies just as you do.
Why are some brands excluded?
I am a very picky pet food/treat consumer. I will only give my own pets (5 cats, 2 dogs) ingredient for human quality. I can't count the number of times I've prevented people from giving my dogs a treat. They just tried to be friendly, but … I don't let my pets eat feed quality (or food).
Some brands can be excluded because I was not familiar with them, others can be excluded because I am familiar with them but I do not agree with their customer service methods, or they are a member of an industry association that works against pet owners. I do not reveal/will not reveal specific information why any brand is excluded.
How much is the treatment list 2025/26?
The cost of buying the treatment list is varied, depending on the support you want/can afford to provide. The price varies from $ 5.00 to $ 50.00. Regardless of the price you buy, the treatment list is the same.
Why debit the list?
Truthaboutpetfood.com and our sister website Association Fortruthinpetfood.com (and myself personally) actively advocate for the rights of pet owners and we are 100% consumer supported.
